We are the Cotters. We have 2 biological daughters, Autumn age 7 and Brooklyn age 4, a foster son, and soon we will be welcoming our 2 year old son, Caidyn home. We have always believed family is born out of love, not the womb. Adoption is a way to see beauty created from brokenness. We are excited to a part of the rebuilding of a 2 year old boy’s life from China.
You may be wondering why we would fly half way around the world for someone we have never met. Our first response is a question, why not? Why not give a boy a place to call home with a Christ-centered, loving family? At a young age, a seed was planted in Melissa’s heart for adoption after viewing documentaries about Chinese girls abandoned and put in orphanages. The seed grew through the years and we believed we would have another daughter. However, God has laid out a very different path for us. He led us through heartbreak in the foster system which turned our preference from a girl to either gender. Immediately after this choice, we looked at the grin of a little baby boy we would soon call our son.
From the beginning, we knew adoption was expensive, like new car expensive. We wanted our earnings to cover the adoption fees and travel costs. But again God had a different plan showing us we were not meant to walk this path alone. We have been humbled by the generosity of others as well as the amazing prayers being said on behalf of our family.
